LG dryer

LG dryers in a wet county

Most LG dryers around here are electric, bought as half of a front-load pair from Martin Way or the Hawks Prairie warehouse club, and they sit stacked or on pedestals in laundry rooms from Tumwater Hill to the townhomes of DuPont. A smaller number are gas, on natural gas mains in Lacey and Olympia. The LG design puts a heater box at the back, two thermistors watching the air, and a Flow Sense system that estimates how blocked the vent is from how the air moves. The idler pulley and the drum rollers wear like anyone’s, but the LG signature is a dryer that runs cooler and cooler as the vent clogs, until the thermistor or the heater finally gives out.

The South Sound is hard on dryer vents. Fifty inches of rain means a vent that exits into a damp side yard on Ruddell Rd never dries, and wet lint turns to paste. In the 1900s Craftsman houses of South Capitol the vent runs from a basement laundry room up and out through a long duct with elbows. In Hawks Prairie a second-floor laundry pushes air down through the wall to a hood at the foundation. Both feed Flow Sense a restriction number, and a Lacey LG dryer that shows d80 in September is showing d95 by February. A dryer in a garage at 45 degrees also takes longer to come up to temperature, which the machine reads as trouble.

LG dryer repair, airflow first

With an LG dryer the first stop is the vent, since it accounts for most of what comes after. The technician puts a manometer on the exhaust to measure restriction, then a thermometer in the air stream to see whether the heater reaches temperature and how fast it cycles. Next the meter goes to the heating element, then the fuse, the high-limit thermostat and both thermistors, and a mechanical noise means the drum is pulled. The van carries LG heating elements, thermal fuses, thermostats, thermistors, idler pulleys, rollers, belts and gas valve coils. That covers most LG dryer repairs in one visit. Anything the van lacks is ordered and installed on a follow-up trip, and that trip adds no charge.

Nisqually Appliance Service is LG authorized service and still a local, independent Lacey shop, and LG dryers are in half the laundry rooms we walk into. If your dryer is new enough that LG should be covering it, we tell you that first and can handle the warranty work. For an Evergreen rental off Cooper Point or a DuPont house you rent out, the owner is sent the written number by email, says yes by phone, and receives the invoice plus the warranty via email. The dryer diagnosis has a fee, quoted when you book. After you approve the repair, its figure has that fee built in; refuse, and the charge ends there. Just one written number, set only after the diagnosis.

An LG dryer gets a diagnosis for one visit fee, a manometer on the vent and a meter on the heater. The written repair price, if you accept it, already includes that fee, and the warranty term rides on the invoice. Request LG service →

LG dryer questions

Do you clean the vent when you repair an LG dryer in Lacey?

We measure it every time and clear what is reachable at the machine: the duct behind it, the transition and the hood if we can get to it. A long run through the house is a duct-cleaning job we will describe on the invoice. Fixing an LG dryer without checking the vent means the new heater goes the way of the old one.

My LG dryer in Olympia shows d90 every load. Is the dryer broken?

Probably not. d90 is the dryer’s estimate that the vent is 90 percent blocked. In an Olympia winter that is typical for a vent that exits into a wet side yard. We measure the real restriction so the number is not a guess, and if the dryer itself checks out we tell you the job is the vent.

Why does my LG dryer take two cycles in a Tumwater garage?

Cold air, wet vent, or a thermistor. A garage at 45 degrees slows the warm-up, a damp vent restricts airflow, and an exhaust thermistor that reads high shuts the heater off early. We check all three on the visit and give you one number for what actually needs doing.

Can you repair an LG gas dryer?

Yes. LG gas dryers on the natural gas mains in Lacey and Olympia fail at the gas valve coils, the igniter and the flame sensor. We test each, replace what failed and run the dryer through a heat cycle to be sure the flame holds.

What does an LG dryer diagnosis cost?

It is the same fee anywhere in our ring, named by dispatch when you book, performed at the machine, and pays for the vent measurement, the heater and sensor tests and the written repair number. Say yes to the repair and the price you were given has that fee in it. If you decline, your payment stops there and the readings are yours.

How a visit runs

From the first phone call to the last test cycle

  1. You reach out

Dispatch picks a two-hour slot with you, most often today or tomorrow, and calls again once the van rolls away from the shop on Marvin Rd.

  2. Measure first

An amp clamp, thermometer or ohmmeter goes on the machine before anyone says what is wrong. Then the dead part gets named in words anyone can follow.

  3. The number, written

Repair cost goes on the ticket as one total with the visit fee already baked in. Say yes or say no; nobody bills by the hour while you think.

  4. Repair on the spot

Pumps, valves, heaters, igniters, rollers and boards for the usual models travel in the bins behind the driver, which closes most jobs on that first stop. A part on order means a second trip at no added charge.

  5. Test and paperwork

You watch a full cycle run, the floor and panels are left as we found them, and an emailed invoice carries the written warranty term.

LG dryer trouble: one call, one written price.

One call sets a two-hour window. The technician arrives with a meter, the fix is priced on the ticket with the visit fee already tucked into it, and the invoice spells out the warranty. Yelm and Ruddell Rd get identical terms.
