The route

Working DuPont

DuPont is the shortest run north we make: onto I-5 at Sleater-Kinney, across the Nisqually flats, and off at exit 119 onto Center Drive. From there the town unfolds in the order it was built. Northwest Landing filled in from 1997 on, Palisade and Bell Hill first, then Hoffman Hill and the streets around Yehle Park, with the last lots on the hill finishing around 2015. The Historic Village near the old powder-works site is the exception, a few blocks of 1900s company houses. Everything else is the same planned grid: alleys, detached garages behind the house, laundry rooms on the second floor, and kitchens fitted from a very short list of builder packages.

That short list is the story of DuPont appliance repair. Nearly every kitchen got a GE or Whirlpool package on the day the house closed, so a street built in 2006 is failing together in the mid-2020s: dishwasher control boards, refrigerator defrost systems, washer drain pumps, dryer heating elements. When one neighbor calls, three more are usually a month behind. The town is on natural gas mains and city water, so the water is kinder here than out in the county, and the failures are age and design rather than scale. We keep the boards, pumps and heaters for those exact model families on the van because we know which houses we are driving to.

What DuPont calls about

ApplianceHow DuPont’s builder-package units behave by now
RefrigeratorsDefrost heaters and thermistors on 2000s side-by-sides, fan motors ticking, water valves dripping into the crisper.
WashersDrain pumps full of coins from the second-floor laundry, door locks failing, bearings on the early front-loaders.
DryersElements open on electric units, rollers gone flat, vent runs from an upstairs closet clogged at the roof cap.
DishwashersControl boards dark after a storm surge, wash pumps humming, door latches worn from twenty years of use.
Ovens & rangesGas ranges with tired igniters, electric slide-ins whose bake element has opened up or whose sensor has wandered.
Ice makersModules stalling, fill tubes cracked, makers from the original package that have simply worn out.

Dishwasher

Dishwasher · Hoffman Hill

The panel went dark during a cycle and stayed dark. Same model as two houses down. It is the control board, killed by a surge in a January windstorm. We fit the board from the van, check the door switch that often goes with it, and run a full wash before we pack up.

Fridge

Fridge · Palisade

A 2004 package side-by-side, frost across the rear wall, milk gone warm. The defrost heater is open, the thermistor is reading high. We thaw the coil, replace both, and check the fan while it is apart. Next door has the identical unit and books for the following week.

Dryer

Dryer · near Yehle Park

Upstairs closet, electric dryer, tumbling with no warmth. The element has opened and the duct running up to the roof cap is stuffed with lint. We fit the element and thermal fuse, clear the run to the roof, and show the owner the lint that was heating the closet more than the clothes.

Washer

Washer · Bell Hill

A front-loader from the original package that holds water and flashes a drain code. A hair clip and a handful of coins in the pump. Cleared, pump tested, hose checked. While the panel is off we note the bearing noise and write a separate number for it so the owner can plan.

Refrigerator repair in DuPont

A fee for the meter visit, then part of the repair price · no quote before the measurement, no price off the ticket

The refrigerators of Northwest Landing are a small family: GE and Whirlpool side-by-sides and bottom-drawer units fitted between 1997 and 2015. At this age they frost up, tick, drip and go warm in predictable ways, and we carry the defrost heaters, thermistors, fans and valves that fix them. The refrigerator is metered and the failed part named, then the price is written as a single number, diagnosis fee tucked in.

What the owner noticesTypical cause hereWork performed
Frost coating the back of the frozen sideDefrost heater open or the defrost thermostat stuckThaw, replace the heater and thermostat, verify the defrost cycle runs
Ticking or rattling from the backCondenser fan motor worn, blade rubbing ice or dustReplace the fan, clean the condenser, check compressor amps
Water pooling under the crisperDrain plugged, or the water valve seeping into the cabinetClear the drain, replace the valve, dry the insulation
My DuPont refrigerator is the original from 2009. Fix or replace?

Depends on the part. A heater, fan, thermistor or valve is a sound repair on a unit that age and carries a written warranty. Compressor death or a sealed-system leak on the same appliance rarely qualifies, and the diagnosis visit is where we say that instead of pretending. You get the measured facts and the decision is yours.

Washer repair in DuPont

A fee for the meter visit, then part of the repair price · no quote before the measurement, no price off the ticket

The typical DuPont washer sits upstairs in a hallway closet, a front-loader that shipped with the house. Twenty years in, the drain pumps clog, the door locks fail and the bearings on the early models start to growl. A leak up there finds the ceiling below fast, so we take washer calls in DuPont seriously and quickly. Expect the repair quoted as a lone written figure, with the diagnostic visit you already paid for counted inside it.

Symptom in the laundry roomFailed componentOur repair
Holds water, drain code on the displayDrain pump blocked by coins, clips or a sockClear the pump, test the motor, check the standpipe
Door stays shut when the cycle endsLatch assembly dead, or no release signal from the boardReplace the lock, test the release, check the board output
Rumbles on spin, louder every monthTub bearings worn, spider corroded on some modelsReplace the bearings and seal, or write the number and say plainly when replacement makes more sense
Is a stacked washer in a DuPont townhome something you handle?

Yes. On a stacked pair the dryer usually has to come off first for washer work, so a second technician joins when the model calls for it. The failures are the same as the floor-standing units: pumps, locks, bearings, boards. Everything is priced after the diagnosis, in writing, before a screw comes out.

Dryer repair in DuPont

A fee for the meter visit, then part of the repair price · no quote before the measurement, no price off the ticket

An upstairs dryer in DuPont vents up through the roof, and the run is long enough that lint gathers at the cap and at every bend. That is why so many calls here start with a dryer that runs and runs. The rest are elements, fuses, rollers and belts on machines that came with the house. Every visit includes a vent check; we repair whatever failed and write a single price that already holds the diagnosis fee.

What you seeLikely offenderRemedy we apply
Full cycle finishes, laundry still wetRoof-cap vent blocked, thermostat cycling earlyClear the run and cap, replace the thermostat, test airflow
No heat on an electric unitHeating element open, thermal fuse gone with itReplace the element and fuse, then find the airflow cause
Loud thump every rotationDrum roller or glide worn flat, belt frayedReplace the rollers, glides and belt together
Why does my DuPont dryer take two cycles for every load?

Most often the vent is to blame. The roof cap on a Northwest Landing house is above a long vertical run and the damp keeps lint sticky. We clear it and measure the exhaust airflow. If the cycling thermostat or the element has been damaged by the heat, that part is named and priced at the same visit.

Dishwasher repair in DuPont

A fee for the meter visit, then part of the repair price · no quote before the measurement, no price off the ticket

The DuPont dishwasher call is often the same call: a GE or Whirlpool unit from the builder package, panel dark or lights flashing, in a house built 2003 to 2010. The control board is the usual part, and the storms of November through February push a few more over the edge each year. We test the board, latch and pump with a meter, then write one figure. Approve it and the diagnosis fee is already part of that figure.

Machine behaviorWhat brokeRepair
Panel dark or flashing after stormy weatherBoard damaged by the surge, sometimes the thermal fuse on the boardReplace the board and fuse, check the door switch
Hums, does not washWash pump motor seized or a broken glass jamming the impellerClear the impeller; install a new pump if the old one has seized
Standing water in the tub floorBlocked drain pump or check valve, drain hose kinked under the sinkClear the pump and valve, reroute the hose loop
Are DuPont dishwasher control boards still available for the 2000s models?

For most of the GE and Whirlpool families fitted in Northwest Landing, yes, and we carry the common ones. Should a board be discontinued, that news comes from us before the diagnosis ends, and you are never left waiting on a part that will not ship. A board repair comes with the same written warranty as any other.

Oven and range repair in DuPont

A fee for the meter visit, then part of the repair price · no quote before the measurement, no price off the ticket

DuPont kitchens run on natural gas mains, so the ranges here are gas slide-ins and freestanding units with a scattering of electric glass-tops. Twenty years in, the igniters glow weak, oven sensors drift, and the spark modules on the cooktop click without lighting. We repair gas and electric, wall ovens and cooktops. The failed part is described plainly, and you receive one repair figure with the diagnostic fee already merged into it.

On the rangeWhat is behind itHow it gets fixed
Oven slow to heat, temperature swingsBake igniter weak, or the oven sensor reading offReplace the igniter or sensor, verify with a probe at 350
Burner clicks, will not lightSpark electrode wet or cracked, module failingDry and test, replace the electrode or module
Glass-top burner dead, others fineElement gone open, or the infinite switch has quitReplace the element or switch, test each zone
Do you service the gas range that came with my Northwest Landing house?

Yes, the GE and Whirlpool gas ranges fitted through DuPont are on our list, and the igniters, sensors and spark modules for them are carried on the van. A weak igniter that keeps the oven from lighting is one of the most common DuPont calls we take, and it is usually fixed at the first visit.

Ice maker repair in DuPont

A fee for the meter visit, then part of the repair price · no quote before the measurement, no price off the ticket

DuPont ice makers are the ones inside the side-by-sides and bottom-drawer refrigerators from the builder packages, and after fifteen or twenty years they simply wear out: the module stalls, the fill tube cracks, the valve leaks by. City water keeps scale mild here, so the failures are mechanical. Either the maker or some of its parts get replaced, a harvest test follows, and the written price you receive counts the diagnostic fee in its total.

Bin behaviorFaultOur response
Nothing; maker silent, bin emptyModule or motor stalled, or the maker never got the fill signalReplace the module or the whole assembly, confirm the fill
One frozen block filling the binFill valve leaking by, or the tube dripping after fillReplace the valve and tube, clear the bin
Ice tasting like the freezerOld filter, bin absorbing odor from the frozen sideNew filter, scrubbed bin, door seal inspected
Is a new ice maker for a DuPont side-by-side a big job?

No. The assembly comes out on a couple of screws and a plug, and most of the common GE and Whirlpool units are on the van. The valve and fill tube get checked at the same time so the new maker is not fed by a leaking valve. It is usually done on the first visit.

DuPont questions

Do you come to DuPont from Lacey, or is there a closer shop?

We come up from Lacey. Exit 111 to exit 119 is one straight run on I-5, and DuPont sits well inside the ring we cover, so there is no mileage line or travel charge. Because the town’s houses are so alike we usually have two or three DuPont calls in a row and the parts for all of them loaded.

My DuPont house still has the original builder appliances. Are they worth repairing?

Often, yes. A 2008 dishwasher with a dead board or a dryer with an open element is a one-part repair with a written warranty. Where repair makes no sense you hear that plainly, for example a failed compressor in a side-by-side two decades old, or a bearing in an early front-loader. You get the number and the plain advice, then you decide.

Why did my neighbors’ dishwashers in Northwest Landing all fail the same year?

Because they were bought the same year, from the same package, and fitted the same week. Boards, pumps and heaters have a service life, and a whole street reaches it together. It is a known pattern here, which is why we carry those specific parts north on every DuPont run.

What does a DuPont visit cost?

The visit and the meter-led diagnosis carry one fee, and dispatch gives you the amount when you book. Green-light the repair and your quote has that fee built in, so nothing is stacked on it. Turn it down and the bill stays at that fee, with the diagnosis yours to keep. No price appears until the diagnosis wraps up, and then it lands on paper with the warranty length printed on your invoice.

How a visit runs

From the first phone call to the last test cycle

  1. You reach out

Dispatch picks a two-hour slot with you, most often today or tomorrow, and calls again once the van rolls away from the shop on Marvin Rd.

  2. Measure first

An amp clamp, thermometer or ohmmeter goes on the machine before anyone says what is wrong. Then the dead part gets named in words anyone can follow.

  3. The number, written

Repair cost goes on the ticket as one total with the visit fee already baked in. Say yes or say no; nobody bills by the hour while you think.

  4. Repair on the spot

Pumps, valves, heaters, igniters, rollers and boards for the usual models travel in the bins behind the driver, which closes most jobs on that first stop. A part on order means a second trip at no added charge.

  5. Test and paperwork

You watch a full cycle run, the floor and panels are left as we found them, and an emailed invoice carries the written warranty term.

DuPont: book a two-hour window.

Roughly 10 minutes from our Marvin Rd shop, with no mileage on the invoice. The meter visit leads to one written number and a warranty term on the invoice.
