The route

Working Tumwater

Tumwater is the easiest south-county run the van makes: I-5 from Marvin Rd, off at Deschutes Way for the Hill and the streets around the falls and the old brewery, or one exit further at Trosper for the newer plats. Capitol Blvd stitches the two together and the Littlerock Rd exit catches the subdivisions at the southern edge. Tumwater Hill's streets curve through 1960s-to-80s ranches with big garages; the plats off Trosper and Littlerock Rd are 2000s-to-2020s two-stories with the laundry upstairs. The apartments along Capitol Blvd and near the airport round out a typical Tumwater day of four or five stops.

The city's water comes from wells and it carries enough hardness to scale valves and coat dishwasher elements, and the natural gas mains under most of the town mean gas ranges and gas dryers outnumber electric ones. On the Hill the second refrigerator lives in a garage that sits at 45 degrees all winter and the defrost system falls behind; the dryer vents through a crawlspace and never dries out. The newer subdivisions installed builder packages from Whirlpool, GE and Frigidaire, now ten to twenty years old, and their pumps, boards and igniters are failing in order. Winter windstorms bring power outages and the boards go with them.

Range

Range · Tumwater Hill

A 1975 ranch, gas range, oven glowing and never catching while the cooktop burners work fine. The igniter measures well under the current the safety valve needs. Igniter from the van; oven taken to 350 and checked against a thermometer, flames set blue. The homeowner thought the whole range was done.

Washer

Washer · Littlerock Rd

A 2012 two-story, laundry upstairs, the front-loader holding water and showing a drain code. The pump trap gives up a hair clip and a guitar pick; the impeller has a broken vane. Pump replaced, pedestal re-leveled, a full cycle run, towels laid down so the carpet never knew.

Fridge

Fridge · Trosper Rd

A GE French door from the builder package, dark after the December windstorm. The lights are back, the compressor is silent. The main board took the surge; the compressor measures fine. Board replaced from the van, freezer pulling down inside twenty minutes, groceries back in from the cooler.

Dryer

Dryer · Capitol Blvd

An apartment with a stacked electric pair, dryer running cold. The outlet reads one leg of 240; the breaker is half-tripped. Reset, then the thermal fuse tests open from an earlier overheat and the lint screen housing is packed. Fuse replaced, housing cleared, airflow checked. Manager approves by phone.

Tumwater questions

How quickly can you get to Tumwater?

Within the week for most calls, frequently the next business day; Tumwater is a straight run down I-5 from the shop. A warm refrigerator reported before 11 jumps the queue. Expect a two-hour window by phone or email and a call from dispatch when the van leaves the shop.

Is there a charge for coming to Tumwater?

No mileage charge. The visit fee pays for the trip and a meter diagnosis, and the repair amount you approve in writing already holds it. Should the repair be declined, your bill is that fee alone. Parts that need ordering mean a repeat visit by the van, and the invoice does not grow. The warranty term is spelled out there too.

Most of Tumwater is on natural gas. Do you handle gas ranges and dryers?

Yes, gas is ordinary work here. Igniters, flame sensors, valve coils and spark modules for popular Whirlpool, GE, Frigidaire and Maytag models ride in the van, and the technician checks the flame color after the repair. On the propane lots toward Littlerock we also see badly converted ranges burning yellow, and we set those right.

Do you service the builder-package appliances in the Littlerock Rd subdivisions?

Constantly. Builder packages from Whirlpool, GE and Frigidaire went into Tumwater's 2000s-to-2020s plats and are the most common machines we repair south of the shop; their boards, pumps, heaters and igniters are stocked on the van. We are independent of all three makers, so the advice is to repair or replace on the merits.

How a visit runs

From the first phone call to the last test cycle

  1. You reach out

Dispatch picks a two-hour slot with you, most often today or tomorrow, and calls again once the van rolls away from the shop on Marvin Rd.

  2. Measure first

An amp clamp, thermometer or ohmmeter goes on the machine before anyone says what is wrong. Then the dead part gets named in words anyone can follow.

  3. The number, written

Repair cost goes on the ticket as one total with the visit fee already baked in. Say yes or say no; nobody bills by the hour while you think.

  4. Repair on the spot

Pumps, valves, heaters, igniters, rollers and boards for the usual models travel in the bins behind the driver, which closes most jobs on that first stop. A part on order means a second trip at no added charge.

  5. Test and paperwork

You watch a full cycle run, the floor and panels are left as we found them, and an emailed invoice carries the written warranty term.
