Where the LG machines are
LG arrived in Thurston County kitchens through the warehouse clubs at the Hawks Prairie corner and the appliance floors on Martin Way, and stayed because the front-loaders were quiet and the refrigerators tall. Today the LG French door with the door-in-door sits in remodels along Boulevard Rd and in new houses off Trosper in Tumwater. The LG front-load pair, often stacked, is in the townhomes of Northwest Landing in DuPont and in upstairs laundry rooms around Hawks Prairie. LG builds around a direct-drive motor in the washer, a linear compressor in the refrigerator and a lot of sensing in both. When the sensing goes wrong, the machine protects itself and stops, and the fix is finding which sensor lied.
The local conditions push on those weak points. Lacey and Olympia groundwater is hard enough to scale LG inlet valves along with ice-maker fill lines; the harder well water in Boston Harbor and along Black Lake does it faster. Damp garages in the Lakes district keep a front-loader’s gasket wet from October to May and the mildew follows. Windstorm outages are the refrigerator story: a linear compressor driven by a board takes the surge badly when the power comes back, and on the morning after a storm along Cooper Point Rd we see LG refrigerators that are silent, warm and, once the board is replaced, fine again. Propane ranges out toward Rainier that were converted in a hurry burn yellow until the orifices are right.
LG faults we see most
| Model line | The usual failure | Our fix |
|---|---|---|
| French door refrigerator | Linear compressor stops cooling or the inverter board fails; both compartments warm together | Measure compressor amps and windings, replace the board if it is to blame, and say frankly when the compressor itself is finished |
| Bottom-freezer refrigerator | Freezer fan seizes with ice and the display shows Er FF | Thaw the coil, replace the fan, and repair the defrost heater or sensor that caused the ice |
| Front-load washer | OE drain error from a blocked pump filter or a failed pump; door boot torn | Clear or replace the pump, fit a new boot, run a full cycle to confirm |
| Top-load washer | UE unbalance from worn suspension rods, or a clutch that will not engage | Replace the rods, test the clutch and the hall sensor, level the machine |
| Dryer | Flow Sense warns d80 to d95 as the vent clogs; heater or thermistor fails after running hot | Measure how restricted the vent is, replace the heater or thermistor, and report what the duct requires |
| Dishwasher | Leaks at the door seal or the sump, or the drain pump will not empty the tub | Replace the seal or the pump, clean the sump, check the drain loop |
How an LG appliance repair goes
An LG diagnosis is meter-led and code-assisted. The technician reads the display code, then tests whichever part it names instead of swapping it on faith. On a refrigerator that means clamping the compressor and reading the fan and the sensors. On a washer it means running the pump and reading the motor hall sensor. On a dryer it means a temperature probe at the exhaust and a manometer on the vent. The van stocks LG drain pumps, door boots, evaporator fans, defrost heaters, thermistors, dryer heaters and the inverter boards that fail after outages. Anything not stocked gets ordered and installed on a follow-up visit, and that visit adds no fee.
We are LG authorized service, and still one independent, local shop: Nisqually Appliance Service, off I-5 exit 111 in Lacey. If your refrigerator is inside the maker’s own compressor coverage, we will tell you that before anything else, and we can handle that warranty work here. Owners of Eastside rentals or a place on Eld Inlet okay the written figure by phone or email and are emailed the invoice along with the warranty. The number you approve is the entire bill, diagnosis and all; decline the repair and you owe the visit fee and nothing further. Every LG repair is priced after the diagnosis, in writing, one figure, no ranges.
LG questions
Do you work on LG refrigerators with the linear compressor in Lacey?
We do. Those refrigerators are common in Lacey and Olympia and the failure pattern is well known: the compressor loses capacity or the inverter board fails. We test both before saying which. If the compressor is the culprit, we lay out what that repair involves, and you decide once the figure is in your hands.
Are you an LG service partner?
Yes. We are LG authorized service and still an independent local shop. That means we can handle the warranty work on a covered LG repair, and we also tell you when their coverage should apply so you can use it. For anything outside it, we repair the machine ourselves.
My LG dryer in Olympia flashes d90. Does it need a part?
Usually it needs a vent. d90 means the dryer measured a 90 percent restriction in the exhaust, and in a damp Olympia winter that is lint paste in a long duct. Airflow gets measured, the reachable lint is cleared at the machine, and you hear whether the duct inside the wall needs cleaning.
My LG washer in Tumwater shows OE. What is it?
OE is the drain code. Either the pump filter, tucked behind the little door low on the front, is packed, or the pump itself has failed, or the drain hose has a kink at the back. We open the filter first, then test the pump with a meter. Most OE calls in Tumwater end with a cleaned or replaced pump.
How do you charge for LG repairs?
Diagnosing the machine has a set fee that dispatch gives you up front, and if you go ahead the figure you were given is what you pay, that fee already tucked in. Once the technician finds the failed part, the repair figure gets written, always as one number. We do not give repair prices over the phone.

From the first phone call to the last test cycle
- You reach out
Dispatch picks a two-hour slot with you, most often today or tomorrow, and calls again once the van rolls away from the shop on Marvin Rd.
- Measure first
An amp clamp, thermometer or ohmmeter goes on the machine before anyone says what is wrong. Then the dead part gets named in words anyone can follow.
- The number, written
Repair cost goes on the ticket as one total with the visit fee already baked in. Say yes or say no; nobody bills by the hour while you think.
- Repair on the spot
Pumps, valves, heaters, igniters, rollers and boards for the usual models travel in the bins behind the driver, which closes most jobs on that first stop. A part on order means a second trip at no added charge.
- Test and paperwork
You watch a full cycle run, the floor and panels are left as we found them, and an emailed invoice carries the written warranty term.
LG trouble: one call, one written price.
One call sets a two-hour window. The technician arrives with a meter, the fix is priced on the ticket with the visit fee already tucked into it, and the invoice spells out the warranty. Yelm and Ruddell Rd get identical terms.
