GE in the kitchens of the South Sound
GE is the range in the builder package. The subdivisions off Littlerock Rd and Trosper in Tumwater, the streets of Northwest Landing in DuPont and the newer blocks of Hawks Prairie went in with a GE electric or gas range, a GE dishwasher and a GE side-by-side, and Profile and Café went into remodeled South Capitol kitchens and the view houses off Cooper Point Rd. GE ranges run their ovens through a control board that watches a temperature sensor and, on gas models, an igniter that must pull sufficient current before the gas valve will open. GE dishwashers pump, heat and drain with parts that scale in hard water. The refrigerators and laundry pairs are plainer and fail the usual ways.
The local pressure on GE machines comes from water and from fuel. Lacey’s groundwater is hard enough to coat a GE dishwasher heater in a few years, and the private wells around Yelm, Boston Harbor and Rochester coat it faster and leave the glassware cloudy. An empty salt tank in the softener shows up first in the dishwasher. On the fuel side, GE gas ranges on natural gas mains in Olympia and Tumwater behave; the same range converted to propane on acreage near Rainier or Littlerock, often converted badly, burns yellow and soots the pans. A November windstorm through the county adds a dead control board on a GE range or dishwasher to the following week’s calls.
GE faults we see most
| Model type | Common breakdown | Our remedy |
|---|---|---|
| Gas range | A tired bake igniter fails to release the gas valve, so the oven never lights or lights late | Amp-test the igniter, replace it, confirm the flame and the oven temperature |
| Electric range | Bake element open, or the oven sensor drifted so the oven runs cold or hot | Read the element and sensor with an ohmmeter, replace whichever failed, confirm the temperature on a thermometer |
| Glass-top cooktop | Radiant element or its limiter fails; one burner dead or stuck on high | Test the element and the switch, replace, check the glass for cracks that make it unsafe |
| Dishwasher | Heater scaled and open, or the drain pump stalled; dishes wet, water in the tub | Replace the heater or pump, descale the sump, check the fill for well minerals |
| Side-by-side refrigerator | Defrost heater or thermostat fails; frost in the freezer, warm fridge side | Check the defrost circuit, fit a new part, force a defrost cycle to confirm |
| Top-load washer | Lid switch or the drive fails; fills and stops | Test the switch and the motor, replace, run a full cycle |
GE appliance repair the way we do it
A GE diagnosis begins with the display when there is one. GE ranges and dishwashers store codes, and the code tells the technician where to put the meter first. On a range that means an amp clamp on the igniter, an ohm reading on the element and the oven sensor, and a thermometer in the oven for a full preheat. On a dishwasher it means a look at the heater for scale and a test of the drain pump and the temperature sensor. The van carries GE igniters, bake and broil elements, oven sensors, radiant elements, dishwasher heaters, pumps and the common control boards. If your GE needs a part we do not stock, we return to install it, and that follow-up visit is not billed again.
We are not GE, and we are not GE’s repair arm. Nisqually Appliance Service is an independent Lacey shop. If the manufacturer’s warranty is still running on your machine, we tell you first; that path may spare your wallet. For a Tumwater rental or a DuPont house you no longer live in, the owner phones or emails an approval of the written repair figure and later finds photos, the invoice and the warranty in an email. Once you approve, the diagnosis fee sits within the repair figure; decline, and that fee is the only thing you owe. We price every GE repair after the diagnosis, in writing, as one number, and never over the phone.
GE questions
Do you repair GE ranges in Tumwater?
Yes. The subdivisions off Littlerock Rd and Trosper have GE ranges by the street, and we are in them most weeks for igniters, elements, sensors and F-codes. Natural gas and electric both. We carry the common GE oven parts on the van.
Is GE Profile or Café different to work on?
They share the underlying parts with the plain GE line and add features on top. The igniters, elements and sensors are the same jobs. The boards are model-specific and sometimes ordered, and then we return to install without a further fee.
Are you a GE service company?
No. We are independent and not connected to GE in any way. That means we cannot bill GE for a repair under their coverage, and it also means we tell you plainly when that coverage should apply before you spend anything with us.
My GE dishwasher in Olympia leaves everything wet and gritty. Is the machine failing?
Sometimes it is the water. Olympia groundwater is hard, and on a well it is harder, so the heater scales over and the rinse cannot reach a drying temperature. We test the heater and the temperature sensor, descale or replace what has failed, and flag the softener on the invoice if its salt has run out.
How much is a GE repair in Lacey?
The diagnosis fee is the same for any GE machine in Lacey or the ring around it, and dispatch gives it to you on the phone. Afterward the technician writes down a single repair figure, and that fee is already a portion of it. There is no price list, because a GE igniter and a GE control board are different work.

From the first phone call to the last test cycle
- You reach out
Dispatch picks a two-hour slot with you, most often today or tomorrow, and calls again once the van rolls away from the shop on Marvin Rd.
- Measure first
An amp clamp, thermometer or ohmmeter goes on the machine before anyone says what is wrong. Then the dead part gets named in words anyone can follow.
- The number, written
Repair cost goes on the ticket as one total with the visit fee already baked in. Say yes or say no; nobody bills by the hour while you think.
- Repair on the spot
Pumps, valves, heaters, igniters, rollers and boards for the usual models travel in the bins behind the driver, which closes most jobs on that first stop. A part on order means a second trip at no added charge.
- Test and paperwork
You watch a full cycle run, the floor and panels are left as we found them, and an emailed invoice carries the written warranty term.
GE trouble: one call, one written price.
One call sets a two-hour window. The technician arrives with a meter, the fix is priced on the ticket with the visit fee already tucked into it, and the invoice spells out the warranty. Yelm and Ruddell Rd get identical terms.
