GE dishwasher

GE dishwashers and the water they run on

The plastic-tub GE dishwasher is the one the builders installed, and it is under the counter in most of Hawks Prairie, DuPont and the Tumwater subdivisions. The stainless Profile and Café went into remodeled kitchens on the Eastside and in the view houses along Budd Inlet. GE dishwashers are built around a wash pump, a separate drain pump, a heater in the tub floor and a control board that reads a temperature sensor and a flood float. The plastic-tub models wear their door latches and drain pumps; the stainless ones wear their diverter motors and door seals. Both carry a heater that gathers scale, and with a crust on it the water falls short of the temperature the cycle wants, which is when the board begins to protest.

This county washes dishes in hard water. Lacey and Olympia run on groundwater with enough minerals to leave a white crust on a GE heater in a few years. Private wells in Boston Harbor, along Black Lake and on the Steilacoom bluff run harder still, some with iron that stains the tub; a softener that has emptied its salt shows up first in how the dishwasher performs. Septic is the other local factor: a GE dishwasher in a lake cabin on Pattison Lake or a house on Boston Harbor Rd should not be grinding food into a drain field, so we say something when the filter tells us it is. Power outages add the odd dead panel.

GE dishwasher repair with the water in mind

A GE dishwasher diagnosis starts with the lower rack out and the filter in the technician’s hand, because the filter tells us about the water and the drain before a meter does. Then the code comes off the panel, the drain pump gets run, the heater gets an ohm reading and a look for scale, and the temperature sensor and flood float get tested. The door seal and latch get a look at the same time. The van carries GE drain pumps, heaters, temperature sensors, fill valves, door latches and seals, and the common control boards. When a part is ordered, the return visit is at no additional charge.

We are an independent shop in Lacey. We are not GE, we do not sell GE dishwashers, and we are not their service network, though we repair their machines every week. Should your dishwasher still be under the maker’s coverage, we say so up front and you can go that route. For a Steilacoom rental or a Boston Harbor house you use in summer, the owner gets the written figure by email, approves it by phone or email, and gets the invoice and the warranty by email. When you approve the work, its price already contains the diagnosis fee. Turn the work down and that fee is everything we bill. Only after the fault is found do we write the figure, as a single number.

Diagnosing a GE dishwasher puts the heater and drain pump on the meter, for a fee dispatch quotes when you call. Approve the written repair and the price you pay already reflects that fee; warranty terms appear on the invoice. Request GE service →

GE dishwasher questions

Why does my GE dishwasher in Boston Harbor leave everything cloudy?

Almost always the water. Wells in Boston Harbor are hard, and once a softener empties its salt tank the hardness reaches the dishwasher before anything else. The heater and wash pump get verified, and if the machine checks out and the water is the offender, we say exactly that.

Every morning my Lacey GE dishwasher has standing water. Is the pump bad?

Often the drain pump, sometimes the hose. If the pump runs but the water comes back, the check valve or a badly shaped drain loop beneath the sink lets it siphon back. We test the pump and check the loop, and replace what is failing.

Can you fix the heater on a GE dishwasher in Olympia?

Yes. GE dishwasher heaters are a common repair here because Olympia water scales them. We test the heater with a meter, replace it when it reads open, and confirm the water heats before we leave. The part is usually on the van.

Is it safe to run a GE dishwasher on a septic system?

Yes, if you scrape plates and keep the filter clean so the machine is not grinding food into the drain field. That is not plumbing advice, just what we see at the lake cabins and on Boston Harbor Rd. A dishwasher running well puts less in the tank than a sink does.

What does a GE dishwasher repair cost?

The diagnosis has one fee, and dispatch states it before the van is booked. Once you approve the repair, the written figure you receive has that fee tucked in. The technician finds the fault before any figure exists. Choose against repairing and the diagnosis fee is the whole charge.

How a visit runs

From the first phone call to the last test cycle

  1. You reach out

Dispatch picks a two-hour slot with you, most often today or tomorrow, and calls again once the van rolls away from the shop on Marvin Rd.

  2. Measure first

An amp clamp, thermometer or ohmmeter goes on the machine before anyone says what is wrong. Then the dead part gets named in words anyone can follow.

  3. The number, written

Repair cost goes on the ticket as one total with the visit fee already baked in. Say yes or say no; nobody bills by the hour while you think.

  4. Repair on the spot

Pumps, valves, heaters, igniters, rollers and boards for the usual models travel in the bins behind the driver, which closes most jobs on that first stop. A part on order means a second trip at no added charge.

  5. Test and paperwork

You watch a full cycle run, the floor and panels are left as we found them, and an emailed invoice carries the written warranty term.

GE dishwasher trouble: one call, one written price.

One call sets a two-hour window. The technician arrives with a meter, the fix is priced on the ticket with the visit fee already tucked into it, and the invoice spells out the warranty. Yelm and Ruddell Rd get identical terms.
