GE oven & range

GE ranges in county kitchens

The 30-inch GE range with the coil or glass top is the most common oven in the ring, because it is what the builders put in. Tumwater’s Littlerock Rd and Trosper subdivisions, Northwest Landing in DuPont and newer Hawks Prairie all have it; the gas version sits in Olympia and Lacey on natural gas mains. The Profile slide-in and the Café went into South Capitol and Bigelow Highlands remodels. A GE gas oven lights through a hot-surface igniter, and that igniter has to pull sufficient amperage to open the safety valve; with age it weakens until the valve simply stays closed. Electric ovens use a bake element and a sensor the board trusts completely, which is why a drifted sensor turns into an F-code.

Fuel is the local twist. In Rochester, Littlerock and out toward Rainier, a GE range built for natural gas was converted to propane by whoever installed it, and if the orifices or regulator were not changed the burners burn yellow and the pans soot. We see that in the farmhouses along Hwy 12 and on acreage off Hwy 507. In Lacey and Tumwater the problem is power instead. A November windstorm through the county leaves GE ranges with dead displays, and the control board is usually what the surge found. Glass-top GE ranges in Yelm manufactured homes crack a burner when a heavy pot hits the corner, and that becomes a safety call rather than a heat call.

GE range repair, gas and electric

A GE range diagnosis is a code and a meter. The technician pulls any stored code from the display, then goes straight to the part it points at: an amp clamp on the igniter while the oven calls for heat, an ohmmeter across bake and broil elements, and the oven sensor compared with a thermometer hung in the cavity. On a top burner it is the spark module and the switches. On a propane range it is a look at the flame color and the orifices before anything else. The van carries GE igniters, bake and broil elements, oven sensors, spark modules, radiant elements, infinite switches and lock assemblies. Ordered boards go in on a return visit that has no fee of its own.

Nisqually Appliance Service is independent and not GE’s service arm, and we have no arrangement with GE. When a range is recent enough for the manufacturer’s coverage to apply, you hear that from us before you spend anything on a visit. For a Tumwater rental or a Yelm house you are managing for family, the owner is emailed the written figure and can reply from anywhere, and email brings the invoice along with the warranty. Approving the repair means the diagnosis charge is already reflected in the total. Declining means you pay for the visit alone and the range stays exactly as we found it. No GE range repair gets a price before the diagnosis, and the price always arrives as one number.

For one visit fee a GE range gets diagnosed in your kitchen with a meter. If you approve the written repair, that fee is one part of the repair price rather than an extra line, and the warranty period is printed on the invoice. Request GE service →

GE oven & range questions

Do you repair GE gas ranges in Tumwater?

Yes. Tumwater is on natural gas and the GE gas range is the standard oven in its newer subdivisions. The igniter is the usual failure, and it is on the van. We also work on the electric and glass-top versions in the same neighborhoods.

My GE range on propane in Rochester burns yellow. Can you fix that?

Usually. Yellow flames on propane mean the conversion was not finished or was done with the wrong orifices. We check the regulator setting and the orifices, correct what is wrong, and adjust the air shutters so the burners run blue. If the parts are missing we order them and return with no second fee.

Is F2 on a GE oven dangerous?

It means the oven got hotter than it should have, and the board shut it down. That is the board doing its job. The cause is a sensor reading low or a relay stuck on. We find which and replace it. Until then, leave the oven off rather than resetting it and hoping.

Can you replace a cracked glass top on a GE range in Lacey?

On many models, yes. The glass comes as a part and we can fit it, though it is often ordered rather than carried. The number is written down first, letting you compare it with how old the range is. Keep a cracked top switched off until the glass is replaced.

What does a GE range diagnosis cost in Olympia?

The fee is the same in Olympia and everywhere else in our ring, paying for the code reading, the igniter and element tests and the written repair number. Green-light the repair and that money goes toward it. Pass, and the visit is all that appears on the bill, with the diagnosis yours to keep.

How a visit runs

From the first phone call to the last test cycle

  1. You reach out

Dispatch picks a two-hour slot with you, most often today or tomorrow, and calls again once the van rolls away from the shop on Marvin Rd.

  2. Measure first

An amp clamp, thermometer or ohmmeter goes on the machine before anyone says what is wrong. Then the dead part gets named in words anyone can follow.

  3. The number, written

Repair cost goes on the ticket as one total with the visit fee already baked in. Say yes or say no; nobody bills by the hour while you think.

  4. Repair on the spot

Pumps, valves, heaters, igniters, rollers and boards for the usual models travel in the bins behind the driver, which closes most jobs on that first stop. A part on order means a second trip at no added charge.

  5. Test and paperwork

You watch a full cycle run, the floor and panels are left as we found them, and an emailed invoice carries the written warranty term.

GE oven & range trouble: one call, one written price.

One call sets a two-hour window. The technician arrives with a meter, the fix is priced on the ticket with the visit fee already tucked into it, and the invoice spells out the warranty. Yelm and Ruddell Rd get identical terms.
