Whirlpool dryer

Whirlpool dryers, a whole town at a time

Whirlpool dryers are everywhere in the ring because they came with the house. Northwest Landing in DuPont was built between 1997 and 2015 with Whirlpool laundry pairs in most of its garages and upstairs closets, and the same package went into Hawks Prairie and the Tumwater subdivisions off Trosper Rd. The 29-inch Whirlpool electric dryer, sold as Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana and Kenmore, has a heating element in a can at the back, a thermal fuse on the blower housing, a high-limit thermostat on the element, and a drum riding on two rollers, a belt and an idler. Those are the parts that fail, and they fail in an order: the vent clogs, the dryer runs hot, the fuse opens.

Our winters make the vent the whole story. A Whirlpool dryer in a DuPont garage vents through the wall into a side yard that stays wet from November through May, and the lint at the hood goes to paste and stays there. In the older Craftsman houses of South Capitol the dryer is in the basement and the vent climbs a long way with elbows. Second-floor laundry rooms in Hawks Prairie push air down through a duct in the wall. Any of those routes clogs in a few years, and the dryer’s AF code, or the smell of hot lint, is the machine saying so. Garage laundry rooms in Tenino and Yelm at 45 degrees add a cold start.

Whirlpool dryer repair, one visit most of the time

The Whirlpool dryer diagnosis is short and physical. The technician reads the code if there is one, then puts a manometer on the exhaust and a thermometer in the air stream, and then opens the front panel and meters the thermal fuse, high-limit switch, cycling thermostat and heating element. On a gas model the igniter gets an amp reading and the coils get an ohm reading. If the noise is mechanical, the drum comes out. Whirlpool, Maytag and Amana dryers share nearly all of these parts, so the van carries thermal fuses, elements, thermostats, thermistors, igniters, coils, rollers, idlers and belts. Anything we must order goes in on a follow-up visit that carries no extra charge.

We work on Whirlpool dryers as an authorized Whirlpool service shop that is still independent and local. Nisqually Appliance Service is based in Lacey, on Marvin Rd. A young dryer may still be under the manufacturer’s warranty; if so, you hear about it from us before anything else, and we can handle the covered warranty work. A DuPont owner renting out a Northwest Landing house approves the written repair figure by phone or email and receives an email with photos, the invoice and the warranty term. The diagnosis on a Whirlpool dryer carries a single visit fee. Approve, and the number you signed already includes it; decline, and that fee is all we bill. The repair number is written after the diagnosis, and it is one figure.

The Whirlpool dryer diagnosis has one visit fee and includes the vent reading. Sign off on the written repair and that fee has been a piece of the total from the start; the invoice carries the warranty term. Request Whirlpool service →

Whirlpool dryer questions

What keeps burning out the thermal fuse on my DuPont Whirlpool dryer?

A blocked vent: the dryer runs hotter than the fuse allows. A new fuse with the vent still clogged lasts only a few months. We measure the restriction, clear what we can reach, and put the rest on the invoice so the new fuse lasts. DuPont vents into wet side yards are the usual cause.

Do you repair Whirlpool gas dryers in Lacey?

Yes. On natural gas in Lacey and Olympia the Whirlpool gas dryer fails at the igniter, the gas valve coils and the flame sensor. The van stocks all three. We test instead of guessing, and finish with a complete heat cycle before leaving.

Is it worth fixing a twenty-year-old Whirlpool dryer in Olympia?

Often it is. The older Whirlpool dryers are simple, and a fuse, an element or a set of rollers puts them back for years. We write the number down and tell you plainly if the dryer has a second problem waiting, so you can decide with the whole picture.

My Whirlpool dryer squeals for the first few loads of the day. What is that?

Either the idler pulley or a drum roller. Cold, damp bearings in a garage laundry room complain until they warm up. Idler, rollers and belt are replaced as a set, since changing them singly brings us back within the year.

What do you charge to look at a Whirlpool dryer?

One visit fee, which pays for the vent measurement and the meter work on the heater and fuses. Proceed with the repair and the figure you signed already contains that money; skip it and the visit is the whole charge.

How a visit runs

From the first phone call to the last test cycle

  1. You reach out

Dispatch picks a two-hour slot with you, most often today or tomorrow, and calls again once the van rolls away from the shop on Marvin Rd.

  2. Measure first

An amp clamp, thermometer or ohmmeter goes on the machine before anyone says what is wrong. Then the dead part gets named in words anyone can follow.

  3. The number, written

Repair cost goes on the ticket as one total with the visit fee already baked in. Say yes or say no; nobody bills by the hour while you think.

  4. Repair on the spot

Pumps, valves, heaters, igniters, rollers and boards for the usual models travel in the bins behind the driver, which closes most jobs on that first stop. A part on order means a second trip at no added charge.

  5. Test and paperwork

You watch a full cycle run, the floor and panels are left as we found them, and an emailed invoice carries the written warranty term.

Whirlpool dryer trouble: one call, one written price.

One call sets a two-hour window. The technician arrives with a meter, the fix is priced on the ticket with the visit fee already tucked into it, and the invoice spells out the warranty. Yelm and Ruddell Rd get identical terms.
